Our Impact

Stories

We measure our success in actual lives changed. These stories are a testament to the difference that mental health services can make when we come together to create lasting change.

The First Family

In 2011, a group of people provided a scholarship to a family suffering from multiple addictions. They were only able to pay $5.00 per session. During a 6-9 month period, we worked with every member of the family. Both husband and wife were able to achieve sobriety. All their children came in for play therapy. Prior to this time, the wife had never held a job for more than 3 months.

In 2013, I received a letter from this family asking to see me when they were coming back into Atlanta. We met the next week and we learned that the husband was now well-established in a career and over 2 1/2 years sober. The wife was also 2 1/2 years sober, had held the same job now for almost 3 years, and had been promoted 4 times. They came back to share their progress and to contribute to the scholarship fund that they said, “saved our lives.”

This family inspired us and made  us see that there are many others who could have a better future with assistance. We need your help to do more.

Saving and Rejuvenating a 37 year marriage

Another letter was received from a former client.  Here is what was shared.  We came to therapy 10 years ago.  Our relationship was falling  apart due to addiction and affairs.  We went through therapy groups, individual and couples counseling.  We weren't sure we would make it.  The counselors guided us through the disclosure, therapy, and reconciliation.  Not only did we survive, we have a marriage better than we would have ever imagined.  As we write this, we are enjoying our grandchildren playing in our back yard.  Our relationship with our adult children is better than ever.  When we started therapy, we just hoped to survive.  We had no idea we would thrive and be enjoying our lives like this 10 years later.  Thanks to the whole team at Capstone for guiding, supporting, and teaching us how to have a real marriage.  It's never too late.  Thank you all.

Depression and Anxiety

Depression is a dark hole that felt like I could never escape.  The harder I tried, the worse it got.  I didn't want to get out of bed in the morning and had no energy to get through the day.  My work and family suffered.  I had gone to the doctor and was given a variety of medications through the years.  Nothing helped for very long.  When I came to therapy, I was able to discover the causes of my depression and ways to manage it.  I felt less anxiety.  We then added medication back and things began to get better.  I started this journey 6 years ago.  Today I'm back at work developing my career.  I'm able to care for my children and have learned how rewarding that can be.  It's great to have energy again and be able to cope with life much better.  Thank you Capstone for helping me put all of the pieces together.
